Iotas in the Park is a chapter tradition bringing together Brothers, Sweethearts, family, and friends. Refreshments, music, line dancing, and good conversation make room for people to reconnect and new friends to feel welcome.

Past gatherings have also recognized Jonathan Earl Coleman Book Scholarship recipients and their families, and collected nonperishable food for Feed More. Each year’s activities are shared with the event announcement.

In 2026, we celebrate Iota Phi Theta’s 63rd Founders’ Day—a meaningful echo of our founding year, 1963. Each September 19, we honor the twelve Founders who established Iota at Morgan State and the Perspective that gave our Brotherhood its purpose. Their example asks each generation to think for itself, serve with conviction, and contribute something lasting.

For Omicron Omega, remembering our founding is a chance to renew our own commitment. Senior Brothers share the experiences behind our traditions, younger Brothers consider the legacy they will build, and families see why these bonds endure. We celebrate with pride and ask a practical question: how will we live Scholarship, Leadership, Citizenship, Fidelity, and Brotherhood in the year ahead?

Homecoming reconnects us with the campuses, friendships, and experiences that helped shape the men we became. With all five Omicron Omega charter members coming from Virginia State’s Eta Chapter, returning to the yard carries a special meaning. Our ties to Virginia Union and other campuses widen that circle, bringing alumni and undergraduate Brothers together across generations.

Those conversations can open a door: an undergraduate meets a mentor, a recent graduate finds his alumni home, or a Brother who has been away finds a familiar welcome. Bringing our families into these moments helps them understand the people and places behind our stories. We return with gratitude and a responsibility to encourage the students carrying the tradition forward.

Brotherhood grows through time spent together. A shared meal, a visit, or an unhurried conversation gives us room to know the person beyond his title or chapter role. These moments build the trust that helps us ask for support, celebrate one another’s milestones, and stay connected through life’s changes.

Our gatherings make space for senior Brothers’ wisdom and younger Brothers’ ideas. Transfers, recent graduates, and Brothers returning to active participation have a place in that exchange. Sweethearts, spouses, children, relatives, and friends are part of the warmth that makes Omicron Omega feel like family. Fellowship keeps our relationships strong enough to sustain both the work we do together and the care we owe one another.

Black History Month gives our chapter family time to honor the courage, creativity, scholarship, and everyday perseverance that made our opportunities possible. Through learning and conversation, we connect the stories of our ancestors, our communities, and our own families to the responsibilities we carry today. Our past celebrations, including gatherings in traditional African attire, give that remembrance a shared and personal expression.

For younger generations, these moments offer a chance to hear history from people who have lived it and to see themselves as part of its continuing story. For all of us, they deepen the connection between pride and service. We honor that inheritance by supporting education, strengthening our communities, and giving the next generation stories and examples they can carry forward throughout the year.
